Fraser Stirling of Peter D Stirling Limited wins Young Rail Freight Professional Award at Rail Freight Group (RFG) Awards

Fraser Stirling was named the Young Rail Freight Professional of the year at the 2020 Rail Freight Group (RFG) Awards.

Announced at the online awards ceremony on 10 September, the judges praised Fraser for fresh ideas for sustainable logistics. He is Rail Logistics Manager at the family-owned operator and owner of Mossend International Railfreight Park (MIRP), Peter D Stirling Limited, founded in 1870 and celebrating 150 years of business this year.

The RFG Awards recognise excellence in all aspects of rail freight, acknowledging the outstanding work of teams up and down the country.

David Stirling, Director of MIRP operator Peter D Stirling Ltd, said: “Fraser is the fifth generation of the family business and has fitted in seamlessly to the team of experienced professionals who I am also very proud to have on board. He has come in with new ideas and processes to enhance our business and is also working with the team on integrating the existing rail freight services into the fully autonomous MIRP facility.”

For over four years now, PD Ports has operated a very successful intermodal rail freight service with direct connections from Teesport to Mossend. This route provides a simple, more cost effective and environmentally friendly route for European markets for Scotland’s imports and exports, whilst alleviating the already congested UK road network. As trade continues to grow and the requirements for more freight to be moved by rail, the new development at Mossend International Railfreight Park is both much needed and an exciting opportunity. It will play a significant role in transforming the modern supply chains into and out of Scotland and we wish the project every success.
