Mossend International Railfreight Park (MIRP) is a 122-hectare (301-acre) site adjacent to the electrified West Coast Main Line (WCML) and is a partnership between Peter D. Stirling Ltd (PDS) and the Trustees of Miss I D Meiklam’s Trust (I D Meiklam Trust). It will realise a once-in-a-generation opportunity to revolutionise rail freight connections to and from Scotland.
PDS, founded in 1870, is the family-owned operator and owner of MIRP, celebrating 150 years of business in 2020. It first purchased land at Mossend more than 40 years ago to establish the railhead, which is a key node within Scotland’s freight network. The site currently provides a direct road-to-rail link to logistics users all over Scotland and the rest of the UK, as well as Europe via the Channel Tunnel.
The partnership enables an expansion that will create facilities and opportunities not currently available anywhere else in Scotland.
